Tears of Concrete

By Duncan Drewry

Water flows over rocks
seamlessly
over the riverbed
the rain falls from the sky
but never reaches the ground
a block of concrete stops the downpour
even though the water runs down
the river runs dry
because of buildings that were amassed

we make our own rivers
we call them gutters
the riverbed now runs dry
air flows over rocks
gliding
drifting
floating
seamlessly

over the riverbed

  1. I love the extended metaphor, very creative!

  2. I like how brief each stanza is, sometimes only a word. It really makes the poem stand out.
