Metaphor: Life is an ocean, and you are the wave.
Warm, lucid waves curl against my toes,
calling out a greeting to the chunky sand below.
The world is momentarily suspended as the tide hangs on to its sandy lover,
then scampers away, melting into the ocean.
Like an obedient child, it bends to the will of the mighty sea.
Again the waves slip away from the ocean’s grip,
swelling eagerly towards the empty beach like a ballerina straining towards her jete,
only to collapse onstage, the jeering of the audience an encompassing chokehold.
Only to be dragged back, once more, into the strangling clutch of the sea.
Calm, even, ever-peaceful.
Rough, unforgiving, vicious.
The fluctuating moods of the ocean beckon the response of the waves.
The sea is a concertmaster; the tide, an orchestra of emotion,
weaving a web of interconnectedness and unity.
One cannot be without the other, as you cannot be without the events that shape your life.
Some restraining you, preserving your status as a victim, powerless and alone.
Others empowering you, allowing you the little shove you need towards the sand.
I enjoyed reading this Poem, I absolutely love the last stanza!
ReplyDeleteSo intense. The break in your pattern with the last stanza makes it seem as if it was a personal thought or line.
